RAMP Home

Welcome to the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Radiation Protection Computer Code Analysis and Maintenance Program (RAMP) homepage. RAMP is a program for developing, maintaining, and distributing the NRC’s radiation protection, dose assessment, and emergency response computer codes.

GOALS OF RAMP

Goal 1:

Computer models and data are appropriately updated (e.g., atmospheric and dosimetric models and International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) coefficients) and systematically incorporated.

Goal 2:

Each code has a software modernization plan that will include plans for rewriting the code to reflect computer programming language updates, ensure short and long term planning for proper code operation under newer operating systems (e.g., Windows 7 and Mac OS), and ensure the consideration of compatibility and security requirements.

Goal 3:

Code updates are in accord with International regulations and guidance documents.

Goal 4:

Codes are updated based on lessons learned from events such as Fukushima and other international or domestic events.

Goad 5:

Costs are shared among users of the codes.

Goal 6:

There is a centralized management structure to address reporting, prioritizing, and resolving code issues and streamlining of code updates.
